What You’ll Need:
A sturdy metal spoon (not plastic!)
A standard metal can (with a flat top, not a pull-tab)
Step 1: Flip the Can Over
Place the can upside down on a sturdy, non-slip surface (like a cutting board or countertop with a towel underneath).
Step 2: Find the Edge
Press the bowl of the spoon (the curved part) firmly against the edge of the can lid.
Step 3: Apply Pressure and Twist
Push down hard while twisting the spoon sideways — like you’re trying to bend the edge of the lid.
With enough pressure, the metal will begin to bend and fold .
Step 4: Work Around the Lid
Move the spoon around the edge of the lid in small sections, applying pressure and twisting as you go.
Eventually, the entire lid will loosen — and you can lift it off easily!
🧠 Why This Trick Works
Metal cans are designed to be pried open , and while a can opener is the standard tool, a spoon can mimic that pressure in a pinch.
The curve of the spoon’s bowl gives you leverage , and the hard edge helps bend the lid just enough to pop it off — no electricity, no gadgets, just a little elbow grease and clever physics.
