Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a large skillet, melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat and sauté the onion and celery until softened, about 5 minutes.
In a large bowl, combine the cubed bread, sautéed vegetables, dried sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
Pour in the chicken or turkey broth and mixed until the bread is evenly moistened.
Mix in the egg to the stuffing mixture to help bind the ingredients together.
With clean hands, form the mixture into 12 balls, roughly golf-ball sized, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Brush each stuffing ball with melted butter to ensure a crispy, golden finish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
Allow them to cool slightly before serving.
Variations & Tips
For a vegetarian version, swap out the chicken or turkey broth with vegetable broth. Add some dried cranberries or chopped nuts for a festive twist. You can also incorporate chopped cooked bacon or sausage into the mixture for added flavor. If you’re making these ahead of time, prepare and shape the stuffing balls, then refrigerate them until you’re ready to bake. Perfect for planning those busy holiday gatherings!
