4. Place hot lids face down

It may come as a surprise, but placing a hot lid on a cold glass cooktop can cause thermal shock and, in some cases, crack the cooktop. To avoid this risk, place your hot lids on a pot holder or tea towel.

5. Slide heavy utensils across the surface

Cast iron utensils and other heavy pans can be used on a glass ceramic cooktop, but they must be handled with care.
