Ingredients:
- 1 thin crust pizza dough (handmade or purchased)
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- ½ cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- ½ cup onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup bell peppers, sliced
- ½ cup black olives, sliced (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp olive oil (for sautéing)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a pan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Sauté the diced onions until translucent.
- Add the ground beef to the pan, breaking it up with a spoon. Season with salt, pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until browned.
- Stir in the sliced bell peppers and black olives (if using). Sprinkle with Italian seasoning and cook for a few more minutes until everything is well combined.
- On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle approximately 10 by 14 inches.
- Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle with mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
- Starting from the longest side, carefully roll the dough into a jelly roll. Pinch the ends together and place seam side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Use a knife to make a few small slits on top of the bread to allow steam to escape.
- In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the top of the bread for a golden finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow the Garbage Bread to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
