When it comes to heart health, dates may not be the first thing that comes to mind. However, these small fruits are incredibly beneficial for cardiovascular health. Dates are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that protect the heart and optimize its function.

One of the key antioxidants found in dates is flavonoids. This compound improves blood flow and reduces inflammation in the arteries, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease. Another group of antioxidants, polyphenols, increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL, or good cholesterol) and lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or bad cholesterol), as well as total cholesterol. Polyphenols therefore reduce the risk of heart disease, especially in people with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.
