Trump Reacts Jubilantly to Pelosi’s Retirement Announcement (Page 1 ) | November 10, 2025

President Donald Trump responded with apparent delight to the Thursday announcement that former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will retire from Congress at the conclusion of her current term next year.

Speaking to Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy, Trump called Pelosi’s decision “a great thing for America.”

“She was evil, corrupt, and only focused on bad things for our country,” Trump said. “She was rapidly losing control of her party, and it was never coming back.”

Trump also referenced the two impeachment proceedings initiated against him under Pelosi’s leadership, framing them as personal vindication. “I’m very honored she impeached me twice and failed miserably twice,” he remarked. “Nancy Pelosi is a highly overrated politician.”

The former president’s remarks underscore his enduring antagonism toward Pelosi and highlight the long shadow she casts over contemporary Republican political narratives.

Pelosi’s Congressional Legacy and Feuds with Presidents

Nancy Pelosi, first elected to Congress in 1987 during Ronald Reagan’s second term, emerged as a formidable opponent to President George W. Bush when she first became Speaker of the House in January 2007, serving during his final two years in office.

She reclaimed the speakership in 2019, following the 2018 midterm elections during Donald Trump’s first term.

Pelosi’s tenure was marked by dramatic and widely publicized moments, including her infamous tearing of the president’s State of the Union address in February 2020, which she called “a manifesto of mistruths.”

Pelosi’s Role in Trump Impeachments and Retirement Announcement

As Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi oversaw the first impeachment of President Donald Trump in the fall of 2019, charging him with abusing his office by urging newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to investigate alleged corruption involving Joe and Hunter Biden. Democrats contended that Trump temporarily delayed military aid to Ukraine as additional leverage, though the funds were ultimately delivered by the fiscal year’s end and Zelenskyy never initiated an investigation into the Bidens. The Senate ultimately acquitted Trump of these charges.

Pelosi led the House in a second impeachment of Trump in January 2021, this time alleging he had incited the January 6 Capitol insurrection. Once again, the Senate acquitted the president.

In a video announcing her retirement, Pelosi addressed her hometown, saying:

“My message to the city I love is this: San Francisco, know your power. We have made history. We have made progress. We have always led the way.”

She added,

“And now we must continue to do so by remaining full participants in our democracy and fighting for the American ideals we hold dear.”
