1. Prepare the Apple Caramel Base:

  • In a round metal pan or skillet, melt the butter with the sugar over medium heat.

  • Stir gently until the sugar becomes golden brown and slightly bubbly.

  • Arrange the apple slices tightly over the caramel in a single layer. Set aside.

2. Make the Cake Batter:

  • In a bowl, beat the eggs with sugar until fluffy and light in color.

  • Add oil, milk, vanilla, and optional lemon zest or cinnamon. Mix well.

  • Sift in the flour (and baking powder if not using self-rising flour). Combine into a smooth batter.

3. Assemble & Bake:

  • Pour the batter gently over the apples in the caramelized pan.

  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for 35–40 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

4. Unmold & Serve:

  • Allow to cool for 5 minutes only, then flip onto a serving plate while still warm so the caramel flows over the cake.

  • Slice and serve warm or room temperature. Optional: dust with powdered sugar or serve with whipped cream.
