Back in the waiting room, the nurse was still at her station, her eyes flicking up to meet mine as I approached.
“Did you find what you were looking for?” she asked, her tone carefully neutral.
I hesitated, then nodded. “Yes, I did,” I replied, my voice firmer than before.
Her gaze lingered for a moment, as if searching for something in my expression, before she returned to her paperwork with a nod.
As I left the hospital, the cold air hit me like a wave, clearing my mind and sharpening my resolve. There were questions to be answered, conversations to be had, and truths to be uncovered.
But as I walked away, I knew one thing for certain: this was only the beginning.
