A week later, I received a call from the department. “We traced the IP address,” the voice on the line informed me. “It was accessed from a location within your office building.”
The revelation hit me like a punch to the gut. “My office?” I repeated, stunned.
“Yes,” the operator confirmed. “Is there anyone who might have access to your computer there?”
I thought of the shared computers in the break room, the open office layout where anyone could have slipped in unnoticed. “I’ll have to investigate,” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady as my mind raced through the possibilities.
After the call, I sat in my office, staring at the cityscape beyond my window. Someone I worked with, someone I trusted, had done this. I needed to confront them, but first, I had to figure out who it was.
