Whenever My Grandma Cooked This, It Became an Unwritten Rule That Everyone Should Save Room for Seconds

Instructions

Step 1: Preparing the Steak and Onions

Dice the chuck steak into small cubes and lightly coat them with seasoned all-purpose flour.

Brown the coated steak in a frying pan with a small amount of oil to lock in flavor.

In a separate pan, melt the butter. Add the onions and minced garlic. Cook until the onions are soft and transparent.

Step 2: Combining Ingredients in the Slow Cooker

In the slow cooker, combine beef broth, beef bouillon powder, Italian seasoning, ketchup, barbecue sauce, onion gravy mix, and 1 tablespoon of flour.

Add the browned steak and the sautéed onion and garlic mixture.

Cover and cook on high for 5 hours.

Toward the end of the cooking time, stir in 1 tablespoon of onion gravy powder to thicken the sauce to your preference.

Step 3: Preparing the Dumplings

With about 45 minutes of cooking time left, start the dumplings.

In a bowl, combine self-rising flour with 1 tablespoon of butter.

Add milk and a beaten egg, mixing with a fork until a dough forms.

Knead the dough briefly by hand, then shape into small balls (about 1 inch in size).

Gently submerge the dumplings into the gravy in the slow cooker.

Continue cooking for an additional 30 to 40 minutes, until dumplings are fluffy and cooked through.
