What is the best hiding spot?
If you decide to keep cash at home, the question is where to store it (out of sight). You might keep some in your wallet, but you may want a different place for the cash intended for emergencies. Many people immediately think of the nightstand, the silverware drawer, or behind a painting. This makes sense, but these are also the first places burglars will check. If they search long enough, they will find the cash, so you want to avoid making it too easy. It’s better to find a more creative hiding spot.
The less obvious the spot, the better. For example, consider hiding cash in the fridge, between some socks, in a flowerpot, inside an empty (wine) bottle, or in the middle of a book. A ‘secret’ space in your home that no one knows about is also a good option. It’s also a good idea to spread your valuables across multiple spots, so that if a burglar does break in, they won’t find everything at once.
It’s important to come up with a creative hiding place, but make sure you can still remember where it is. If the spot is so good that you can’t find the cash yourself, it won’t be useful!
