This deceptive practice preys on the goodwill of others, making it a particularly insidious form of fraud.

While this type of scam is not unprecedented, the recent attention has renewed concerns about its prevalence and cruelty. The idea of using a child as bait to exploit others’ empathy is distressing, and the viral nature of the warning has amplified its reach.
