Ingredients and Equipment:
Fresh bananas
Plastic wrap or plastic bags
Scissors for cutting plastic wrap.
A bowl of fruit or space on the counter
Directions:
Step 1: Divide the bananas.
If you have many bananas, carefully pull them apart. This is a very important step because when bananas are stored close to each other, they release a gas called ethylene, which makes them ripen faster. By keeping them apart, you can decrease the ethylene gas near each banana, which slows down how quickly they ripen.
Check the Bunch: Examine the cluster of bananas and find where you can easily separate them.
Carefully remove each banana from the bunch using your hands. Be cautious not to hurt them.
Step 2: Cover the stems.
The next thing to do is to deal with where ethylene gas comes from: the stems. By covering the stems, you make a barrier that slows down the gas release.
Cut small pieces of plastic wrap that are big enough to cover the stems of each banana.
