Adding salt to the washing machine
A very “popular” trick used by many housewives. The arguments in favor are as follows: salt softens the water, helps preserve the color of clothes after washing, and copes well with stubborn dirt.
But isn’t it bad for the car? I asked this question to a neighbor who has been repairing equipment for 15 years. It is the frequent use of table salt when washing that is associated with increased aging and oxidation of aluminum parts of the body.
Now, to wash things, I first soak them in a saline solution for 15-20 minutes, and then run the usual wash cycle.
