Her mother, who had not worked since 1992, said she was too elderly and had finished raising her children, which was a major setback. Due to budgetary restrictions, her proposed “traditional” family arrangement could not be implemented.
Though she tried to convince her mom otherwise, she ultimately decided it wouldn’t work for her. To begin with, she had greater debts and a higher income than her boyfriend, who had lower income but also had debt.
The family’s financial stability depended on OP’s ability to maintain her position as the primary earner. The OP’s mother disputed her proposal for a compromise by demanding $20 per hour for babysitting, despite the fact that they were confronted with the hard reality of debt and the need for two incomes.
