1. Blurry Vision
Gupta says sudden spikes and drops in blood sugar levels — common in people with prediabetes — can damage the eye’s ability to focus, leading to blurry vision. This symptom should go away once blood sugar levels are regulated.
2. Excessive thirst
Excessive thirst is one of the most characteristic signs of prediabetes and diabetes. It occurs in response to excess sugar in the blood, as the body tries to eliminate this excess through urine, causing you to go to the bathroom more than usual.
This, in turn, can cause dehydration, which makes you thirsty.
3. Wounds or infections that are difficult to heal
High blood sugar can slow circulation, so skin needs more time to repair itself. Gupta says that as a result, small bruises and cuts can take longer than usual to heal.
Prediabetes can also promote the growth of bacteria and fungus, which can lead to recurring infections, including of the skin, vagina and urinary tract, Gupta says.
