Although it may not seem significant, the little button on a vehicle seat belt really serves a crucial purpose in ensuring convenience and safety. This little plastic component on the seat belt strap is called a stop button or retainer button. It prevents the metal latch plate, which you click into the buckle, from sliding too far down while it’s not in use.
Try to picture a world without that button. When you’re ready to fasten your seatbelt, the latch plate would move all the way to the base of the belt, making it a real nuisance to hold. The latch plate remains in a convenient location because of this button, which saves you both time and effort.
Can You Tell Me Where the Stop Button Is?
Two of these buttons are really standard on most seat belts. At the bottom, near the latch plate, you’ll find one to protect it from dropping to the floor; at the top, closer to the shoulder strap, you’ll find the other.
