The Silent Cowards… When I first got in the fire service, I was surprised. Now, it’s standard. The rate at which people will say things behind your back without having the courage to say them to your face has sky rocketed. On a consistent basis, people are choosing cowardice over courage. They’re silent to your face, as they smile and act like it’s all good.
It takes courage to have a real face to face conversation with somebody about a concern that needs to be addressed. It takes courage to hold your tongue and process what’s happening before you open your mouth. Having hard conversations with people is hard because it’s honest. It’s not easy, that’s why it’s called a hard conversation.
If you’re talking about someone with the intention of getting advice and having a hard conversation with them, I get it. However, this is not the norm. Instead, said person is talked about, bitched about, and rumors are spread. All because one person didn’t have enough courage to take on the challenge of a critical conversation.
