With the high cost of eggs and butter etc. . I figured i would share a frugal family holiday favorite from my grandma. Its a Great Depression era recipe. It works for vegan friends too ❤️. It has a decadent molasses type flavor. Absolutely decadent sliced w butter.
Hobo bread..or coffee can bread.
Night before making..
2 cups raisins (can swap mix and match dried craisins)
2 cups boiling water
4 tsp baking soda
Boil water. Put raisins in large pyrex mixing bowl and sprinkle baking soda over the raisins. Pour boiling water over the raisins baking soda mix. Stir until dissolved. Let sit overnight or 6 to 8 hours.
Next morning or 6 to 8 hours later
