Making pure coconut oil at home is easier than you think! With just a few fresh coconuts and basic kitchen tools, you can create natural, chemical-free oil perfect for cooking, skincare, and haircare. Here’s the simplest method to extract rich, aromatic coconut oil right in your kitchen.
What You’ll Need:
✔ 3–4 mature brown coconuts (older coconuts yield more oil)
✔ Warm water
✔ Blender or food processor
✔ Cheesecloth or fine strainer
✔ Large bowl
✔ Spoon or spatula
✔ Clean glass jar for storage
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Crack & Prepare the Coconuts
Tap the coconuts with a hammer or heavy knife to break the shell.
Drain and save the coconut water (great for drinking or smoothies).
Carefully remove the white flesh using a knife or coconut scraper.
Rinse the meat to remove any shell fragments.
Step 2: Blend into a Smooth Paste
Chop the coconut meat into small chunks for easier blending.
Add to a blender with warm water (about 1 cup water per 2 cups coconut).
Blend until you get a thick, creamy paste.
Step 3: Extract the Coconut Milk
Place a cheesecloth over a bowl and pour in the blended mixture.
Squeeze tightly to extract as much coconut milk as possible.
Repeat with any leftover pulp to maximize yield.
Step 4: Let the Oil Separate Naturally
Leave the coconut milk at room temperature for 24 hours.
A thick cream layer will rise to the top.
Refrigerate for 3–4 hours to harden the cream.
Step 5: Heat to Extract Pure Oil
